Prominent college football commentator Paul Finebaum has decided against running for the U.S. Senate. He revealed that the recent hiring of a high-profile coach influenced his choice.
Finebaum, a longtime ESPN analyst, told CBS News that Lane Kiffin is part of the reason. Kiffin recently became the head football coach at Louisiana State University (LSU).
"I was seriously considering it," Finebaum said of a potential Senate campaign. "Then LSU hired Lane Kiffin. I thought, 'I can't leave now. The season is going to be too interesting.'"
The statement highlights Finebaum's deep connection to the sport he has covered for decades. His decision prioritizes his media career over a move into politics.
