American climber Sasha DiGiulian has become the first woman to free-climb the Platinum Wall on Yosemite’s El Capitan. She completed the historic ascent during a severe storm.
The Platinum Wall is the longest continuous route to the 3,000-foot summit of the famous granite cliff. Free-climbing means using only one's hands and feet on the rock, with ropes solely for safety in case of a fall.
DiGiulian, 33, achieved the climb despite facing dangerous weather conditions. Her success marks a significant milestone in the sport of big-wall climbing.
