Voters in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District will choose a new U.S. Representative in a special election on Tuesday. This contest has drawn intense national attention, transforming a typically conservative district into a competitive political battleground.
The election fills the seat left vacant by former Representative Mark Green. Green, a Republican, retired from Congress earlier this year.
Both major parties are investing significant resources into the race. The outcome is seen as a potential indicator of voter sentiment ahead of the November national elections. Analysts will study the results for shifts in suburban voting patterns, a key demographic.
The district, which includes parts of Nashville's suburbs and stretches westward to Clarksville, has historically favored Republicans. Recent demographic changes and focused campaigning, however, have made the race unexpectedly close.
Polls will be open during normal voting hours on Tuesday. The winner will serve the remainder of Green’s term, which ends in January 2025.
