Police in Virginia apprehended an unusual suspect early Tuesday: a raccoon found unconscious inside a local liquor store.
Officers responded to an overnight alarm at the store. They discovered a scene of minor damage, with several liquor bottles knocked from shelves and broken on the floor.
The investigation led them to a bathroom, where they found the raccoon, apparently intoxicated and asleep. The animal, nicknamed "Cole" by responding officers, had likely consumed spilled alcohol.
Authorities safely captured the raccoon. It was later transferred to a wildlife rehabilitation center for assessment and care.
Store employees cleaned the location and resumed normal business operations. No estimates for the cost of the damage were immediately available.
