The US Department of Defense released its first batch of UFO files last week. President Donald Trump ordered the release, citing “tremendous interest” from the public.
Trump is not wrong. Nearly half of all Americans believe aliens have visited Earth. Many also believe the government hides evidence in secret labs or military bases.
This belief dates back to 1947. That year, the Roswell army airfield in New Mexico announced the crash of a “flying disc.” The mystery has never faded.
For Trump, releasing the files is a political win. If the files show no proof of aliens, he can blame the “deep state.” If they show proof, he becomes a hero. Either result boosts his popularity.
