Ukraine Dismisses Russian Claim of Drone Attack on Tanker
Ukraine has rejected Russia's accusation that it attacked a civilian fuel tanker in the Black Sea. Kyiv called the alleged flight path of the drone "nonsensical" and suggested Russia may have staged the incident. On Friday, Russia claimed a Ukrainian naval drone struck the tanker *SIG*, which was carrying fuel for the Russian military. No crew members were injured, and a fire was quickly extinguished. In a statement, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence said the supposed route from the drone's launch point to the tanker "makes no sense from a tactical and logistical standpoint." The agency did not claim responsibility for the strike. Instead, Ukrainian officials implied the event could be a Russian "provocation." They suggested Moscow might orchestrate such incidents to justify heightened security measures or to disrupt civilian shipping in the region. The exchange highlights ongoing tensions in the Black Sea, where both military and commercial vessels operate.
