Two major French journalist unions have filed a legal complaint against Israel. They accuse the country of blocking press freedom in Gaza and the West Bank.
The unions submitted their complaint to France's anti-terrorism prosecutor last week. They allege Israel is "obstructing the freedom to inform" by preventing international journalists from entering the war-torn Gaza Strip and restricting work in the occupied West Bank.
This lawsuit represents a new effort to pressure Israel. International media have largely been barred from entering Gaza independently since the Israel-Hamas war began.
The legal action seeks to hold Israel accountable under international law. The unions argue that preventing independent reporting violates the public's right to information.
