The Louvre Museum in Paris will increase ticket prices for visitors from outside the European Union. The change follows a major jewelry theft at the museum last October.
Officials announced a price rise of approximately $12 per ticket. The increase will apply only to non-EU visitors, who represent a large portion of the museum's annual guests. The Louvre is the world's most visited museum.
The decision comes after thieves stole jewels valued at roughly $102 million from the museum's collection. In response to the heist, the institution is also introducing new, unspecified security measures.
Proceeds from the higher ticket fees will help fund these enhanced security systems. The museum has not announced the exact date for the price change.
