British lawmakers have launched an inquiry into properties leased from the Crown Estate to members of the royal family. This follows recent public revelations about the lease of a luxury property to the Duke of York, Prince Andrew.
The Crown Estate is a large collection of lands and holdings that belong to the monarchy. However, its profits go to the UK government. Senior royals can lease some of these properties for their personal use.
Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Public Accounts Committee will now examine these lease agreements. They aim to ensure all arrangements are transparent and commercially fair.
The inquiry will review the terms, costs, and oversight of all such active leases. A committee spokesperson stated the goal is to confirm that these deals provide proper value to the public.
