Bitcoin's price fell sharply on Friday after China's central bank forcefully restated its ban on all cryptocurrency activities. The digital currency dropped more than 5% following the announcement.
The People’s Bank of China declared all transactions and services for digital assets illegal. This includes trading, order matching, and derivative products for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Analysts link the timing of this warning to China's push for its own official digital currency, the digital yuan. By banning competitors, Beijing aims to solidify the digital yuan's domestic use and control financial risks.
The move highlights the ongoing regulatory pressure facing the global cryptocurrency market. Prices of other major digital coins also fell in response to China's statement.
