**Colombia Leads 50-Nation Revolt Against UN Climate Deadlock**

A new global coalition is forming to break the political logjam on fossil fuels. It was born from frustration with the slow pace of United Nations climate talks. For years, the words "fossil fuels" were rarely included in final agreements at UN climate summits. Last year's conference ended without even mentioning them in its official text. This is despite global scientific consensus that burning coal, oil, and gas is the main cause of climate change. Now, Colombia is taking a different path. As a major fossil fuel exporter itself, it is leading a "coalition of the willing" with the Netherlands. More than 50 countries support the effort. They will host a first-of-its-kind conference this month in Santa Marta. The goal is to finally start a serious global transition away from fossil fuels.
