President Donald Trump will invite the families of two National Guard soldiers to the White House. The soldiers were recently shot while on duty in Washington, D.C.
The event will honor Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and Specialist Andrew Wolfe. Both were part of the National Guard deployment supporting security operations in the capital.
Specialist Beckstrom later died from her injuries. Specialist Wolfe remains in critical condition.
The White House meeting is intended to recognize the soldiers' service. A spokesperson said the President wishes to offer his condolences and support to their families directly.
The National Guard has thousands of members deployed in Washington, D.C. Their mission is to assist federal and local law enforcement agencies.
