UN Warns Global Food Systems Must Transform to Feed Future Population

A new United Nations report warns that feeding a global population of 10 billion by 2050 will require a major transformation in how the world manages land and water. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) issued the alert in its upcoming *State of Land and Water Resources for Food and Agriculture (SOLAW) 2025* report. It underscores the urgency of adopting smarter agricultural practices. Current systems are already under severe strain. In 2024, an estimated 673 million people experienced hunger. Many regions also face severe and recurring food emergencies. The report concludes that relying on existing farming methods is unsustainable. It calls for immediate, innovative strategies to use finite land and water resources more efficiently and equitably.
