Botswana Eyes Farming Boom to Boost Economy
A government official says Botswana's economy could be led by agriculture through new cooperative farming projects.
Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Baratiwa Mathoothe, stated this on Saturday. She explained that collaborative initiatives have the potential to make farming the top contributor to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
GDP is the total value of goods and services produced in a country.
Currently, mining is the largest part of Botswana's economy. The push for collaborative farming aims to diversify economic growth. These initiatives involve farmers working together to share resources, knowledge, and market access.
The announcement was made in the village of Masama. It highlights the government's strategy to strengthen the agricultural sector.
