Indonesia’s President-elect, Prabowo Subianto, has urged world leaders to take stronger action against climate change. He made the statement during a recent international forum, positioning Indonesia as a critical player in global environmental efforts.
Prabowo emphasized that climate change is a direct threat to all nations. He argued that developed countries must lead the way in reducing harmful emissions. He also called for increased financial support to help developing nations adapt.
As a nation with vast forests and coastal areas, Indonesia faces significant climate risks. Prabowo stated the country is committed to protecting its forests, which act as crucial carbon sinks. Carbon sinks are natural systems that absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than they release.
The president-elect reaffirmed Indonesia’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. This means the country aims to balance the amount of greenhouse gases it emits with the amount it removes. Prabowo concluded that international cooperation is essential for a sustainable future.
