Kazakhstan Advances National Language Plan to Boost Use of Kazakh
Kazakhstan is accelerating a plan to increase the use of the Kazakh language in public life. A new government policy aims to expand its role in science, information technology, media, and public administration.
The initiative, called the 2023–2029 Language Policy Concept, also confirms a major change to the alphabet. The nation will transition from the Cyrillic script, used for decades, to a Latin-based one.
This move strengthens Kazakhstan's linguistic identity. Officials describe the policy as a key step for the country's future development and cultural sovereignty.
