The head of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society has issued a stark warning that the humanitarian crisis in Sudan is worsening and risks being overlooked by the world.
“The needs are overwhelming. Sudan cannot be forgotten,” said Secretary-General Aida Elsayed.
The conflict between military factions has created one of the world’s largest displacement disasters. A key new concern is the changing pattern of movement. Millions of civilians are now fleeing into new areas within Sudan that lack basic services.
These regions were already struggling before the war. They cannot support the sudden arrival of so many people.
The displaced population urgently needs food, water, shelter, and medical care. The Sudanese Red Crescent, supported by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, is providing aid. However, resources are stretched far beyond capacity.
The organization warns that without increased global attention and funding, the situation will deteriorate further.
