UN Report: Afghanistan Becomes Global Hub for Terror Groups Under Taliban
A new United Nations report warns that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for international terrorist organizations. The Taliban government is not containing these groups, allowing them to grow and plan attacks abroad. The UN monitoring team found that al-Qaeda is now operating more freely inside Afghanistan. The report states the group is rebuilding its strength and has a "more stable safe haven" than at any time since 2001. Other extremist groups are also expanding their presence. This includes Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is launching frequent attacks into Pakistan, and the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K), which remains a major threat. The findings challenge the view that Afghanistan’s security problems are only a local issue. The UN evidence shows the country has become a base for terrorism that threatens the wider region and the world.
