Iran has asked Thailand to provide detailed information on its cargo ships and oil tankers. Tehran wants to know what the vessels are carrying and where they are going before allowing them to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The request was confirmed by Thailand’s foreign minister. It comes as the two countries are negotiating passage for Thai commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital channel for global oil shipments. Iran controls the northern side of the strait. Nations often require ships to follow certain procedures, but specific cargo and destination details are a more stringent demand.
Thailand is currently in talks with Iran to secure unhindered transit for its ships. The discussions were reported by a major Thai media outlet, citing the foreign minister.
