A former FedEx driver has confessed to the kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand. Tanner Horner now faces either the death penalty or life in prison as jurors decide his sentence.
Horner admitted his crimes during a police interview. Video evidence shows he described how he disposed of Athena's body. He told investigators he "kind of tossed" it into a wooded area.
The crime occurred in November 2022. Horner was delivering a package to Athena's home in Texas when he encountered the child. He later confessed to abducting and killing her.
The trial is currently in the sentencing phase. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. The jury must choose between this and a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.
