Shawne Merriman, the former NFL star, has clarified the mission of his mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, Lights Out Xtreme Fighting (LXF). He stated that his organization does not see itself as a direct competitor to the industry leader, UFC.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Merriman explained his different vision. He believes LXF's role is to develop new fighters rather than challenge the UFC.
Merriman described his promotion as a "feeder system." This means LXF focuses on finding and training the next generation of MMA talent. The goal is to prepare these athletes for the sport's biggest stages.
This approach avoids a costly head-to-head battle with the established UFC. Instead, LXF aims to create a unique path for emerging fighters to build their careers.
