A fire in Hong Kong has killed five people, including a three-year-old child. The blaze broke out in an apartment on Portland Street in the Yau Ma Tei district.
Authorities have arrested two men, aged 28 and 34, on suspicion of criminal negligence. Police believe the fire started due to power strips that were overloaded with electrical appliances.
The overloaded equipment allegedly caused a short circuit, igniting the fatal fire. The death toll rose after two individuals succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
The building had previously received official warnings about blocked escape routes. This tragic incident has renewed public concern over fire safety in the city's older, densely populated urban areas.
