Greenland MP Aims to Make His Own Job Obsolete

A Greenlandic politician has a unique goal: to work himself out of a job. Qarsoq Høegh-Dam is a new member of the Danish parliament. He belongs to Naleraq, a party that wants full independence for Greenland. His election last month is a first for his party. His mission is to shift political power from Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, to Nuuk, Greenland's capital. Greenland is a large Arctic territory. It governs itself in many ways but remains part of Denmark. Høegh-Dam believes if he is successful, Greenland will be ruled solely by its own parliament. There would then be no need for Greenland's two seats in the Danish parliament. "I want to make myself as obsolete as possible," the new MP said.
