Mircea Lucescu, a giant of Romanian football as both a player and coach, has died. He was 80 years old.
The Bucharest University Emergency Hospital confirmed his death on Tuesday. Lucescu was hospitalized on Friday after suffering a heart attack.
As a player, he captained Romania's national team. He later coached the side at the 1984 European Championship.
Lucescu was also a serial winner with club teams. He secured multiple league titles across a decades-long coaching career, cementing his status as a national icon.
