U.S. authorities have arrested two relatives of the late Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani. The detained individuals are his niece and grand-niece.
Officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed the arrests and that both women are now in custody. The agency did not provide specific charges or details about where the arrests occurred.
Soleimani, who led Iran's elite Quds Force, was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Iraq in 2020. His death sharply escalated tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The reasons for arresting his family members are unclear. The U.S. government has previously sanctioned individuals and entities linked to Soleimani for supporting terrorism.
