Retail investors in China have rushed to buy shares in a local artificial intelligence chip company. The initial public offering (IPO) for Beijing-based Moore Threads, a graphics processing unit (GPU) maker, attracted over 4,000 times more subscriptions than available shares this week.
This intense demand underscores China's push to develop its own advanced semiconductors. The country aims to create domestic alternatives to GPUs made by US companies like Nvidia.
The successful IPO is now expected to speed up the listing plans of other Chinese GPU firms. Companies such as MetaX and Biren are also working on similar technology for the AI market.
