Lucas Philippe of France has been elected as the new president of Interpol. He succeeds Emirati official Ahmed Nasser al-Raisi.
The previous president, al-Raisi, faced multiple legal complaints during his term. These judicial cases, filed in Europe, accused him of torture.
Interpol, or the International Criminal Police Organization, facilitates global police cooperation. The presidency is a part-time role, while the organization's day-to-day operations are managed by a Secretary General.
