Philippines Bans Ex-Officials Linked to Offshore Gaming

The Philippines has banned two individuals connected to its controversial offshore gaming industry, known as Pogos. This action appears to be an effort by President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr's administration to improve its public standing. On Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it cancelled the passports of Harry Roque, a former spokesman for ex-president Rodrigo Duterte, and Cassandra Li Ong, an associate of a former lawmaker. The move imposes a travel ban on both figures. The government is targeting Pogo figures to regain public trust. However, analysts suggest an ongoing flood-control scandal is currently having a greater impact on political fortunes.
