A major overnight upgrade to Hong Kong's Tung Chung MTR line will happen this Sunday. The work is a key step before part of a costly new rail extension opens later this year.
The MTR Corporation confirmed the plans on Wednesday. It also stated that a recent scandal involving counterfeit bricks has not impacted the massive HK$19.5 billion (US$2.5 billion) project.
The full Tung Chung line extension remains scheduled to open in 2029.
The signalling system upgrade is essential for the new section. It will be performed during early Sunday morning hours to minimize disruption to passengers.
