NATO's Secretary General has held multiple conversations with former U.S. President Donald Trump this week. This follows Mr. Trump's recent description of the alliance as a "paper tiger" without American support.
Mark Rutte made the announcement during an interview with CBS News. He did not share details of the talks.
However, Rutte pointed to what he called "good news." He said that 22 nations, including many NATO allies, have recently increased their defense cooperation. He suggested this action shows the alliance's strength and unity.
The discussions occur as Mr. Trump campaigns to return to the White House. His past comments on NATO have caused concern among European allies about future U.S. commitment to the collective defense pact.
