U.S. Program for 350,000 Haitians Set to Expire in February

A U.S. program protecting approximately 350,000 Haitian immigrants is scheduled to end in early February. The policy, known as Temporary Protected Status (TPS), shields individuals from deportation if their home country faces dangerous conditions. When TPS expires, beneficiaries will lose their legal immigration status. Unless they secure another form of legal permission to remain, they could become eligible for removal from the United States. The U.S. government grants TPS to nationals of certain countries experiencing ongoing conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary circumstances. The designation for Haiti is now nearing its termination date.
