How Newshelp works
Every Newshelp article is built in three layers. The reporting comes from human journalists at real publishers. The synthesis is done by machine, so that many sides of a story can sit in one place. And the final word belongs to our editors — people who read, correct, and shape every article, every day.
That last layer is the one that matters most. It is where a news aggregator becomes something you can trust.
Three layers, one article
Reported by humans
We do not report the news ourselves. We gather it from the publishers who do — more than thirty-five of them, across the political and geographic spectrum.
Woven by machine
For each category, our system retrieves the most relevant coverage and composes a single article that holds the different perspectives together — one story, many sides.
Shaped by editors
A machine can combine. It takes people to judge. Every article is read and proof-read by our editors, who apply a consistent voice and a clear point of view.
From feed to finished article
Collect
Every couple of hours, fresh reporting flows in through RSS from more than thirty-five international sources.
Understand
Each article is turned into a vector — a mathematical fingerprint of its meaning — so that stories about the same event, told from different sides, can be grouped together.
Compose
Every six hours, for each category, the system retrieves the most relevant coverage and writes a single composite article that brings the perspectives together.
The editorial hand
This is where the machine stops and people take over. Our editors bring a hand-crafted perspective to every category — a consistent voice, guided by our reason for existing: balanced, multi-perspective information for communities in conflict zones, in-need populations, and the Global South.
Plain, honest language
News language does quiet work. An aggressor is described as “defending.” A euphemism softens an atrocity. A loaded verb nudges the reader toward one side without ever arguing for it. Left untouched, the framing of a source becomes the framing of the reader.
Our editors strip that out. Attackers are named as attackers. Victims are described with dignity. We do not carry water for any government, militia, or narrative — from any side. When every source on a story is telling it slanted, the slant itself is the story, and we say so.
Read and refreshed, daily
Each category is read with its own context in mind. Every article is proof-read by editors, and coverage is refreshed daily so the picture stays current rather than frozen at the moment it was first written.
How we use AI (and where we don’t)
- Our composite articles are synthesized by AI from reporting written by human journalists at real publishers. The reporting is human; the synthesis is automated; the judgement is ours.
- We do not invent. No fabricated sources, quotes, or facts. Where the model is uncertain, we would rather show less than make something up. Every composite traces back to the real publishers behind it.
- AI is a tool in our newsroom, not the newsroom. It gathers and drafts; editors decide what ships.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix the article and note what changed, rather than quietly editing the past.
