Ukraine Intensifies Long-Range Strikes on Russian Military Infrastructure

Ukrainian forces are conducting a sustained and widening campaign of long-range drone strikes, systematically targeting Russian military logistics, fuel supplies, and arms depots deep behind the front lines. The strategy aims to cripple the supply chain supporting Moscow's war effort.

In a series of coordinated overnight attacks, Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Russia's Volgograd region and multiple military sites in occupied Ukrainian territories [46778]. Similar strikes have recently hit a major ammunition depot belonging to Russia's 51st Army in Makiivka [49303] and a field ammunition depot near the Russian border in the Luhansk region [28560].

The targets are not limited to frontline areas. Strikes have damaged or destroyed key facilities hundreds of kilometers inside Russia, including an oil depot in Penza and an artillery arsenal in Tver [42961]. Critical energy infrastructure on the Black Sea coast, such as the ports of Temryuk and Taman, has also been repeatedly hit, damaging storage tanks, pipelines, and even vessels [34619][32338][32419].

Ukrainian officials frame these operations as a direct response to Russian aggression and a necessary tactic to degrade enemy capabilities. One recent strike on a Russian oil depot was explicitly described as retaliation for a massive Russian air assault that included advanced hypersonic missiles [46729]. "Destroying fuel supplies and ammunition slows Russian military operations. It disrupts the movement of equipment and weapons to the front lines," one report stated [45840].

The campaign has expanded to include high-value industrial targets. A drone attack ignited a major fire at the Energiya plant, one of only three facilities in Russia that manufactures specialized batteries for military equipment ranging from drones to intercontinental ballistic missiles [42052].

While Russia launches its own large-scale drone assaults on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure—including a record barrage of 156 drones in a single night [47816]—Kyiv's focused strikes on logistics represent a strategic effort to undermine Moscow's ability to wage war over the long term. The repeated success of these attacks highlights the growing reach and sophistication of Ukrainian drone technology and its impact on the conflict's dynamics.
