Syrian Forces Intensify Crackdown on ISIS Cells Across the Country

Syrian security forces have conducted a series of operations across multiple provinces, resulting in the arrest of numerous suspected Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) members and the dismantling of several militant cells. The coordinated actions highlight an ongoing, nationwide effort to combat the remnants of the extremist group.

In the capital region, operations near Damascus have been particularly frequent. Security forces arrested a senior ISIS commander, Taha al-Zoubi, in a joint operation with the U.S.-led international coalition, a rare instance of publicized cooperation [34332]. While the majority of reports focus on anti-ISIS activities, other security operations continue concurrently. The sustained pressure on ISIS cells comes amid a complex security landscape. Notably, a recent ISIS attack that killed American personnel prompted rare public statements from both Damascus and Washington affirming a shared commitment to counter the group, despite deep political divisions [26098].
