Turkey Denies PKK Leader Meeting Report, Says Leak Aims to 'Sabotage' Peace Process

Turkey’s state broadcaster TRT Haber, citing unnamed security sources, dismissed the alleged conversation as "pure fiction" and said the purpose of the leak is to "sabotage" the peace process [228363]. The denial was echoed by Mithat Sancar, a member of the pro-Kurdish DEM Party’s delegation to İmralı Island, where Öcalan is held, who said the circulating notes are "not real" and that no meeting with PKK commanders took place [228332].

The İmralı delegation issued a written statement warning that the documents are a "dangerous activity aimed directly at sabotaging the process" [226042]. Similarly, the organization managing the post-PKK political movement called the leaked texts a "planned provocation" and urged the public to ignore them [227166]. Öcalan himself rejected the statements attributed to him on social media, calling them "provocative actions" by those opposed to the current process [227120].

Despite the denials, Gültan Kışanak, another delegation member, said a proposed "framework law" could become operational within two months, suggesting a possible legal path forward [228332]. The statements come amid intense speculation about the future of the peace process between Ankara and the PKK, which is designated a terrorist group by Turkey and its Western allies [228332].
