BYD raises driving-tech price as memory chip costs soar
China’s electric vehicle giant BYD is raising the price of its high-end driver-assistance system, blaming a sharp rise in global storage hardware costs. Starting Friday, the optional DiPilot 300 system will cost 12,000 yuan ($1,757), up 21% from 9,900 yuan. The system allows cars to navigate themselves on highways and city roads. The price hike shows how high memory chip costs are spreading from smartphones to electric vehicles, hitting a key area of automotive technology.
