China GPU Makers Surge 160% as Local AI Chip Demand Booms
Chinese chip designers Cambricon Technologies and MetaX Integrated Circuits reported strong growth in the first quarter. The rise comes as the artificial intelligence boom, ongoing US export controls, and China’s push for self-sufficiency drive demand for home-grown computing power. Cambricon’s first-quarter revenue jumped 160 percent from a year earlier to 2.89 billion yuan (US$423 million). Profit soared 185 percent to 1 billion yuan, the company said in a filing.
