UK deaths will outnumber births every year from 2026

New official projections show that deaths in the UK will outnumber births every year starting in 2026. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) also predicts slower population growth than previously expected. The UK population is set to rise from 69.3 million to 71 million between 2024 and 2034. That is an increase of about 1.7 million people, or 2.5%. However, the population is expected to begin shrinking in the mid-2050s.
