Jimi Hendrix Bandmates’ Estates Lose Copyright Battle Against Sony

Europe culture countries
The estates of two former Jimi Hendrix bandmates have lost a court case against a major record label. Bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell, who both died in the 2000s, had disputed the copyright of studio recordings from the 1960s. The owners of their estates took legal action against Sony Music Entertainment UK (SMEUK). They claimed they were entitled to copyright and performers’ rights over the recordings. The High Court ruled against them, siding with the label.
