King Charles to Congress: 'Actions of this great nation matter'
King Charles praised NATO and called for the continued defense of Ukraine during a historic speech to the US Congress on Tuesday. The address marked the 250th anniversary of American independence and came as President Donald Trump visited Britain.
“America’s words carry weight and meaning, as they have since independence,” the King said. “The actions of this great nation matter even more.”
The speech was seen as a veiled appeal to Trump to maintain US support for European alliances and liberal values. Charles highlighted the importance of the “special relationship” between Britain and the US, along with the need to address the climate crisis.
This was the first time a British monarch addressed Congress in the context of a state visit.
