Six Jailed for Life Over 2020 Jihadist Attack in Ivory Coast
Nearly six years after a deadly assault shook the nation, an Ivorian court has sentenced six men to life in prison for their role in the 2020 jihadist attack on the border town of Kafolo. The verdict delivered justice for the victims, bringing a close to a case that had haunted security forces and local communities. The attackers were convicted of terrorism, murder, and criminal conspiracy. The assault, which killed several soldiers and civilians, was one of the deadliest militant strikes in the country’s recent history. Authorities have since stepped up security along the northern border, where jihadist groups from the Sahel region occasionally stage cross-border raids.
