85-Year-Old French Widow Detained by ICE, Deported to France
An 85-year-old French woman has been deported to France after being detained by U.S. immigration authorities, the French foreign ministry announced Friday. Marie-Thérèse Ross moved to the United States to marry her long-lost love, an American military veteran. She was still waiting for approval of her permanent residency application, known as a Green Card, when her husband died. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, arrested her following his death. The agency enforces immigration laws within the United States. Her detention caused an uproar in France. French officials confirmed her return to her home country on Friday.
