Attenborough Revisits Gorillas 50 Years After Famous Encounter
Naturalist David Attenborough returns to the family of mountain gorillas that made history with him almost 50 years ago. A new documentary follows his journey.
The most famous moment in wildlife film occurred in 1978. While filming the BBC series "Life on Earth," Attenborough was playfully approached by gorillas in Rwanda. As they climbed over him, he said, "There is more meaning and mutual understanding in exchanging a glance with a gorilla than with any other animal I know."
That scene remains powerful today. It is the focus of a new, high-profile documentary, "A Gorilla Story: Told By David Attenborough."
The film has notable backing, including director James Reed and executive producer Leonardo DiCaprio. Its central question is simple: what happened to those same gorillas after all this time?
