Over 100 Authors Flee French Publisher in "Ideological War" Protest
More than 100 writers have resigned from the historic French publishing house Grasset. They are protesting its owner, billionaire Vincent Bolloré.
The authors accuse Bolloré of using his media empire to promote reactionary and far-right ideas. In an open letter, they stated they "refuse to be hostages in an ideological war."
This walk-out is unprecedented for the French literary world. It includes famous signatories like punk feminist novelist Virginie Despentes and philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy.
The 74-year-old Bolloré is known for his closeness to far-right political figures. The mass resignation signals a major crisis for the prestigious publisher.
