Peru Election Heads to Runoff Amid Fraud Claims
Left-wing candidate Roberto Sanchez has secured a place in Peru's presidential runoff election. He will face conservative frontrunner Keiko Fujimori in June.
The result was confirmed after more than 90% of votes were counted. Fujimori led with approximately 17% of the vote. Sanchez narrowly took second place with 12%.
The close count for second position has sparked controversy. Rafael Lopez Aliaga, who finished with 11.9%, has alleged electoral fraud. His campaign has signaled it will organize protests over the result.
The June runoff will decide Peru's next president.
