Prosecutors in Surprise Fed Visit Turned Away at Door
Federal prosecutors attempted an unannounced inspection of the Federal Reserve building in New York on Tuesday but were denied entry, a source confirms.
The team from the Southern District of New York, led by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, arrived without warning. Their goal was to examine the building's current renovation work. Officials at the Federal Reserve refused them access.
The reason for the prosecutors' interest in the renovations is unclear. The visit was initiated by the office of Jeanine Pirro, a former district attorney and current television host, who is reportedly involved in a related investigation.
CBS News political director Fin Gómez is following the story. The Federal Reserve and the U.S. Attorney's office have not issued public comments.
