UK to Send 120,000 Drones to Ukraine as Drone War Rages
The United Kingdom will send over 120,000 drones to Ukraine. This is its largest military aid package this year. UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced the package in Berlin. He spoke at a meeting of 43 nations coordinating arms for Ukraine. The aid also includes hundreds of thousands of artillery shells and thousands of air defense missiles. The massive drone shipment addresses a critical shift in the war. A UK intelligence assessment found that in March 2024, drones caused 96% of Russian casualties. That month, Russia suffered its highest casualty rate of the war so far. This trend shows drones have become the most common weapon on the front lines. Both sides use them for reconnaissance and to drop explosives directly on targets. The new British package aims to give Ukrainian forces a decisive advantage in this drone-dominated conflict.
