U.S. Sees Hope for Deal as Iran Threatens Red Sea
The White House expressed optimism for renewed negotiations with Iran, even as Tehran makes threats to disrupt vital Red Sea shipping lanes.
On Wednesday, officials dismissed reports that the U.S. sought to extend a ceasefire as false. However, they confirmed that planning for a second round of direct talks is ongoing.
Last week's lengthy negotiations in Islamabad ended without a deal. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that discussions about another meeting are happening, but "nothing is official."
She added that new talks would "very likely" be held in person. This diplomatic push continues amid public threats from Iran to shut down commercial shipping in the Red Sea, a major global trade route.
