One Million Demand EU Cut Israel Ties Over Genocide Claims
A public petition calling for the European Union to suspend its trade and cooperation deal with Israel has passed one million signatures. Organizers say the campaign reflects growing public anger.
The petition demands the EU halt its Association Agreement with Israel. This pact provides privileged trade terms and political ties. Suspending it would be a major diplomatic step.
Campaign organizers accuse Israel of genocide in Gaza. They argue the EU is breaking international law by continuing the agreement. “The EU must stand for international law and stop its complicity,” a statement from the organizers said.
The one-million-signature mark is a significant threshold for the ‘European Citizens’ Initiative’ tool. It forces the European Commission to formally review the request and meet with organizers. The Commission must also issue an official response, but it is not forced to take action.
The petition remains open for signatures for one year.
