Somali PM Vows Stronger Army on 66th Anniversary
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has pledged to build a powerful military to protect the country's sovereignty.
He made the statement on Sunday at a ceremony in Mogadishu. The event marked the 66th anniversary of the Somali National Army's founding.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for a strong and disciplined force. His comments come as the government continues major operations against the militant group al-Shabaab.
The Somali National Army, with support from international partners and local clan militias, has regained significant territory from the militants over the past two years.
